Anderson Accountancy was officially formed in August 2009 from repeated requests of business owners were looking for a good, reliable, plain speaking accountancy practice that didn't charge the Earth. A business philosophy based on these requirements was formed and Anderson Accountancy took shape. We spent time sub-contracting in a local practice which showed us the way it should NOT be done and so developed a winning formula for both practice and client.

Some people may want to know a little about the owner of the business - well this is me (dressed somewhat informally).

My accountancy career started all the way back in 1988 where I did a Diploma course in bookkeeping before my first employment with a motor dealership where my job was processing supplier invoices. After discovering I had an aptitude for this line of work, I spent the next couple of years studying for the AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) while continuing to do bookkeeping work for small companies such as retail outlets, swimming pools sales company etc. Having completed the AAT, I was then employed full time by a company in 1996 in the oil business where my role was again processing supplier invoices and payments but quickly developed into the audit and payment of employee expense claims, UK VAT, foreign VAT, foreign currencies etc. It was at this company where I started my studies with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

Unfortunately, there was no room for career progression and so in 1999 I left this company to take up a position with a manufacturer of aircraft engines as Assistant Accountant, mainly dealing with the inter-company accounts with their foreign offices but in May 2000 I was head-hunted and offered a position of Financial Accountant for an importation company which encompassed heading up the accounts department and dealing with all the financial aspects of the company.

The position became redundant in October 2002 and after a few months of temping, I was offered a position of Management Accountant for a manufacturer of mailing machines on a 6 month contract where, on cessation of the contract, I was offered a position as Management Accountant for the Healthcare Division of a national company.

By the time 2004 reared it's head, I had become frustrated with working for other people and decided to launch my own business; building and repairing computers through a retail outlet in Shirley, Southampton. Having enjoyed this business for just short of two years, I decided to go back to bookkeeping for small companies and also spend time with my son.

In 2009, I was asked if I wanted to sub-contract for a firm of local accountants so I started Anderson Accountancy at the same time and slowly grew my client base while gaining valuable experience and in September 2010 I decided to end the sub-contract arrangement and concentrate all my efforts on my own practice and clients which continues to grow from strength to strength.
